What MIB2 is right for me?

There are several MIB2 units avalaible. While the software experience is mostly the same, there are key hardware differences and requirements for different cars.
MIB2 PQ/ZR
The PQ/ZR version of the MIB2 is the most versitle radio avalialbe. Found origionally in the mk6.5 Jetta, New Beetle, and Passat, this unit is fully contained and does not have a "brain" in the glovebox like other units. Because of its shape and all in one design, it is suitable for all MK5 generation Golf, GTI, Jetta, EOS cars, Mk1 Tiguans, B6 passats and CCs, as well as all MK6 Jettas, Golfs, and GTIs. Keep in mind these cars will all need a quadlock adapter to work properly.
MIB2 STD
This MIB2 unit is found in almost all Volkswagens manufactured from 2018-2022, and MK7 Golfs starting in 2016. This unit has two parts, the brain in the glovebox as well as a seperate display mounted on the dashboard. There are two displays that are compatible with the standard MIB2; a 6.5 inch display with phyiscial buttons, and an 8 inch display with capacitive buttons. If you already have an MIB2, you can easily upgrade to the 8 inch display. For cars with an MIB1 (2015 GTI), the glovebox unit and display need to be replaced, but no wiring changes are needed. For Volkswagens made after 2018 with the standard 6.5 inch radio, a new glovebox along with new wiring will need to be run in order to install the display and MIB2 unit.
